The Announcement! =l

Just about a month ago, my Spanish teacher/ CAS coordinator came into the classroom announcing about an opportunity to attend an IB conference in either Spain or Canada.  She also mentioned the theme of the conferences, which were Social Entrepreneurship for the IB conference in Spain and Going Green for IB conference in Canada. No doubt both the themes seemed equally interesting to me, I was more tempted to try out for Social Entrepreneurship as I could relate to the theme better. I love playing sports from squash to futsal to swimming. Besides, I’d like to learn more about other culture and their country, and also to share the various cultures in my country where I am proud to be in.

After a fortnight, my teacher announced the six lucky people that are going to attend the IB conference and I was one of the six lucky ones! I did not know what to do or how to react at that time but all I knew and felt that my heart was having a wide smile in me.  I started preparing for my conference, looking up on the concept of global village, design thinking method and also some of the global issues, as I did not want to go unprepared.

The preparation for this conference itself has started teaching and giving me ideas on how to plan further a step. Imagine all the three hundreds participants who are also doing their research and getting prepared like me. I am curious and excited to see the ideas generated by us! Nevertheless, I am eager to meet people from different background and nations. The idea that IB students from across the world come together as one to help create a better future for the society really gets me enthusiastic!

The important part of this conference to me is to learn and share my knowledge and experiences with the other contestants so we can work together to solve problems.

The outcomes define the process. The one thing that I have learnt so far through MUN is the purpose of negotiating for mutual benefit, not debating about points and wanting our notion to be put at the top of the list.

Moreover, I am sure that I will bring back my knowledge and experience to my fellow friends in Malaysia to share with them the about the values and lessons that I have learnt and how to implement them into our daily life because one day, we will meet someone of a different background and work along side by side with them to help develop the world into a better place for the community and society. The method and process must be right!
